Speaking Skills
You don't have to be a flamboyant orator or a professional speech giver to know the great importance of speaking skills. A talent that transcends many aspects of life, speaking skills are essential in both professional and personal settings, in both public and private sectors. Speaking skills not only allow you, the speaker, to convey your message in a passionate, thoughtful, and convincing manner, but speaking skills also help assure that you won't be misunderstood by those who are listening. Speaking skills, in short, give you the ability to communicate effectively, with little or no chance of a misunderstanding (and little or no chance of your audience falling asleep during your presentation).
It might seem like speaking skills are something all of us innately have. After all, most of us - sans the professional mime - do indeed know how to speak and we speak quite often. But, being able to speak and having speaking skills are two very different things. Without good speaking skills, you might find yourself talking, but saying virtually nothing.
The differences between a person who stands in front of an audience and delivers a lucid and mesmerizing speech and one who stands in front of an audience, looks at the ground, stutters, loses thoughts, and demonstrates insecurities are vast and countless. It all comes down to one thing: speaking skills. Without them, a speech or a presentation can seem like the longest minutes or hours of your life.
Whether you are a CEO of a company or the head of your daughter's brownie troop, whether you are interviewing in front of a panel of potential employers or giving a speech in front of your college debate team, solid speaking skills can arm you with the ingredients you need to become a thorough presenter. Solid speaking skills - or rather knowing you have solid speaking skills - also instill a sense of confidence in you. Confidence is something you just can't fake….especially when speaking in front of others.
